Fossil
Collecting on the Peace River
- Students will experience the excitement of finding fossils
that date from the Miocene period to the Pliocene period.
These times were known as the Ice Age. The students will
find a variety of fossils including: various shark teeth
including the largest shark ever known Megalodon, rays,
barracuda, puffer fish, dolphin, whale and dugong. The
students can also find land fossils that have been submerged
like deer, bird, alligator, camel, horse, turtle, snake
and mastodons. The best part is you get to keep what you
find!
All
equipment will be provided for fossil collecting along
with an educational instructor to help you determine what
you have found and the best ways to find them. Maximum
of 36 students. Trip will include 3 free spots for chaperones.
(Trips must be scheduled a minimum of 30 days in advance
with a 50% deposit.)

Aquaculture
Field Trip - Students will first visit a working
clam farm; they will learn the process of breeding and
raising clams from start to finish. Included will be a
trip on the Indian River to see where and how the clams
are raised once out of the tanks. Then they will cruse
down the river to see dolphin nurseries and experience
the wild beauty of the Indian River. After the boat trip
students will dine at a local fish camp restaurant for
lunch.
Teachers
will receive an informational DVD for their class from
the Florida Division of Aquaculture. There is a maximum
of 25 students, and 3 free spots for chaperones. (Trips
must be scheduled a minimum of 30 days in advance with
a 50% deposit.)
